High Security Locks in Baden

You run a home office with client files and equipment, and your insurer has asked what kind of lock is on the door.

Call (226) 894-0179

In plain words

This service suits anyone who wants to stop wondering. Homeowners who have inherited unknown keys with a house, landlords who want one controlled key system across units, and businesses protecting stock, records or medication all ask for it. The locksmith explains the choices in plain terms, from a graded deadbolt with a patented cylinder up to laboratory-rated cylinders and heavy commercial lock bodies, and helps you decide which doors deserve which level. Then the work is done cleanly, every key is tested in every lock, and you leave with the documents that let you control future keys.

Sound familiar?

After the attempted break-in the police officer pointed at your door and said the strike plate was held by two short screws. Nobody got in, but you have looked at that door differently every evening since.

How the visit goes

  1. Reading the cylinder you have now

The existing cylinder tells the locksmith a great deal. A standard pin tumbler with an open keyway can be picked, bumped and duplicated by anyone with the blank. Worn pins let a key that is not quite right jiggle it open. A cylinder that spins loosely in its housing or shows a scratched face has been attacked or simply worn out. The locksmith identifies the format, whether key-in-knob, rim, mortise or interchangeable core, because that determines which high-security cylinders will drop into your present hardware and which will need a new lock body altogether.

  2. Retiring the old keys and closing gaps

Part of the visit is making the old keys meaningless. Once the new cylinders are in, every previous key is tried to confirm it no longer operates anything, and any remaining door on the old keyway is either upgraded or at least rekeyed so an unknown copy has nowhere to go. The locksmith also closes small gaps found during the assessment: replacing hinge screws with long ones, adjusting a closer, adding a cylinder guard, or moving a thumb-turn away from glass. The door leaves the visit as one coherent assembly rather than one strong part among weak ones.

  3. A known number of keys

The most noticeable change is not in the door but in your head. You know exactly how many keys exist, who holds each one and that nobody can add to that number without your authorisation. The system is registered in your name with the locksmith, so a request for an extra key comes back to you rather than being filled at a counter somewhere. Keep the authorisation card or login details somewhere safe and separate from the keys. When a key is lost, tell the locksmith; the record is updated and you can decide together whether that key's loss warrants any further step.

What affects the quote

  1. Number of doors

Each door gets its own cylinder or lock, strike work and testing. Several doors on one keyway share the setup cost of the key system but add hardware and time per opening.

  2. Cylinder rating and format

A patented residential cylinder, a laboratory-rated commercial cylinder and an interchangeable core sit at different points on the scale, and the format that fits your present hardware decides which lines are available.

  3. Documentation and registration

Setting up the key register, recording signatories and providing a written schedule of cylinders and keys is real work on a business system and is listed rather than hidden.

What to have ready

  • Is the door wood, steel-clad, fibreglass or aluminium with glass?
  • Does the door have a closer, push bar, alarm contact or keypad on it already?
  • How many keys exist today, and are you confident of that number?

High Security Locks: questions

Questions
Will my door look different afterwards?

Barely. A high security cylinder sits in the same place as the old one and is usually distinguished only by a different keyway shape and sometimes a hardened collar. A graded deadbolt is a standard-looking deadbolt in your chosen finish. The reinforced strike is longer than the plate it replaces and the wrap-around reinforcer, if used, shows as a neat metal band on the door edge. The difference is felt when you lock up, not seen from the street.

Do high security locks need special maintenance?

Only light care. Use the dry lubricant the locksmith recommends once or twice a year, never oil, which gathers grit around the finger pins and sidebar. Keep the keyway free of debris and insert the key fully before turning. In winter, warm a resisting key in your hand or use a de-icer rather than forcing it. Check hinge and strike screws each season so the door stays aligned. Treated this way the cylinder lasts for decades.

Why does the locksmith care so much about the strike plate?

Because that is where a kicked door fails. The bolt is strong, but it sits in a pocket in the jamb held by a thin plate and short screws, and a boot splits the wood around it. A reinforced strike or box strike fastened with three-inch screws into the wall framing spreads the blow along the frame. It is the least visible part of the upgrade and often the one that does the most.
